My Style. Some days I think I know it 100% of the time. Other days I find I can fluctuate between 2 or sometimes even 3 styles. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I’m so glad that everyone has a unique sense of style, music, fashion, taste, and well smell. (sometimes – smell.;)
This feature in Real Simple – March 2010 grabbed my attention. I think I am a very visual person, but I learn from doing & decorating. I’m very much a trial & error girl. This article is well, so simple to follow & is a great visual tool to pick which style you are – then they tell you where to shop, & where to find inspiration for your particular style.
You choose A – B – C – or – D!
which images grab your attention?
If you choose some of the “A’s”…you are a sophisticated classic type of gal:
All the “B” peeps raise your hand…this is you. Modern Graphic. I am so glad there are people out there that are “B’s”. You make this world much more interesting.
All the Cozy Casual “C’s” please stand up. Please stand up. I love this style particularly during these cold Winter months. Yummy.
Are there any “D’s” in the house??? Come stand by me. Vintage, eclectic, yes I think I am but with a little cozy, country casual. Ha! See, I still can’t make up my mind. But I know I was drawn more towards these images from picture #2 then any of the others. Although, my couch is not as vintage as this one pictured below – I think it has that vibe along with comfort. ***And, oh how I love that mantel. In fact I have been dreaming about that weathered – distressed mantel for a week now. Good dreams indeed.***
Ok, here’s the list of where to shop, look for inspiration, AND blogs to stalk for inspiration!!! How about that? (double click to enlarge if needed.)
Now, all this dreaming of that mantel, that eclectic style has not gone to waste.
Because 2 days later, after finding this article…
This
is
what
happened….
I found a water leak above our mantel with a mold patch. ugh. ugh. ugh. AND the wall has buckled ever so slightly. more ugh. To be honest, I’ve never really liked this mantel. I love the rich stain color, but that’s it. It has always been on the bottom of the list to fix or spruce up, because there were several other projects to attend to first. It is way too primitive for my style. But with an almost 100 year old house - I guess that’s what you should expect. Primitive.
Everything about it is really simple. Easy to attach some “finesse” for more decor or distress it by paint. You can see in the first image on the left how it is separating from the wall. yikes. Anyways, if we can salvage the mantel we will…but I just may have to accessorize it.
With a trip to our local Salvage/Junk Yard I’m sure I will find something!
Who knew months after taking pictures with my camera phone, on one of my many weekend trips to the salvage yard, I would be re-visiting these again. For much needed inspiration!!!
So we have done a little re-arranging. A floor move! *see our 2nd project* yes, that will have to be addressed as well.
And we will be working on this new dilemma rather quickly – after the rain this weekend. ugh. (and then I’ll wax my floors from all the mess it will create.
But…on a positive note – until the plastic tarps go up – the kids & I have a new dance floor to strut our stuff on!
P.S. If you have any of those tv music channels (you know the ones that play music without the video) check out the new Mardi Gras – Bourbon Street channel. It is our new fave!
to be continued…
curious to know which style letter YOU are…and if you have any suggestions or recommendations on our mantel wall dilemma…please, please, please feel free to give – please!
Hello! I’m so glad you’re here & reading my posts! I’ve started truncating my posts, so please click over to read the rest of the story!
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!

I love the picture of the salvage mantles. I’m sure which ever direction you go, it will look fantastic.
I read that RS the other day. I ‘m mostly C, comfy casual with the westie from group A. She fits in prety well with my C style
Have a great weekend!
I’m a double D girl myself…wait a minute that didn’t sound right.LOL
I’m a D oh how I love D, but wait I like a little bit of A, and did you see those cute things in C and who can pass up some of those things in B. But that is the great thing about being a D you can so put some of those other things in and still be cool. I love D, I will dream of D tonight. I love this post and I can’t wait to see what you do with the mantel. I am avoiding ours, I know I want to change it but can’t decide what to do or get the nerve to mention it to Hubby.
Cha Cha
Oh Kellie this is right up my alley girl! Love this! Thanks for scanning the article. I got mostly c’s and d’s, but to be honest I love all the styles. I definitely have design ADD! And good luck with your mantel issue, at least you have an excuse to change things up if you want!
Thanks for sharing that article! That was awesome. I’m a cross between A & C. Looking forward to your mantel redo.
Blessings!

@ Rhonda Thompson!!!
you crack me up!
i just love ya.
i’m a C girl…..but that answer may be different tomorrow:) i agree with jackie that i may have design ADD. sometimes i like something so antique, the next minute i’m looking at something sleek!
sorry i have no advice about your mantle….thanks for the recommendation on the radio station:)
Great post! I think I am mostly C with a bit of D mixed in. Don’t you just love how everyone’s a bit different?
I got the modern graphic style but I kind of hate that room they show as an example. I think with like every other test I take, I’m a mixture of all four.
Oh yeah…I’m a “C” girl/ Pottery Barn all the way! I want to slipcover everything……
Sending you a great hug and big ole thanks – finally see how to make my pictures bigger!!!!! =)
I really love them all. But I am a C and a D. I have been playing around in my great room and really need some help? keep both leather chairs in or move one out. What to do…..
I seem to be a C and an A girl. What fun was that.. thanks for such a good post! Picture day was so much fun and that ol’ Mrs. Sibi knows how to work a camera and get you to strike a pose. I’m rather stiff on my own!
Love some of those flea market find mantles as well. How much fun.. happy hunting!
I am C/D girl which is why I have a hard time with decor sometimes…great post!
If you guessed that I was mostly a A girl then you win the prize. That was fun.
I’m a C and D girl.. But I love to look at the B’s.. because they are so different from me.
Great BLOG!
