sides & sweets

My mom is on her way. Well, tomorrow she is on her way. But today my mom is baking, cooking, & sewing for us. She is bringing ALL my favorite sides & sweets for an early Thanksgiving meal. I can’t wait. The turkey, yes I enjoy it, but really the sides & sweets are my fave. Well, maybe I should clarify, my mom’s sides & sweets are my fave. There is nothing like my mom’s cooking.

Not only does her visit bring sweetness to this house of chaos, but as always it allows me to have a touch more freedom then normal. Sometimes, it is just the simple things that I am thankful for when she comes for a visit.

~ a long shower. yes, i take a shower once in a while, but 3 minutes max. enough time to shave one leg. you never know what a 2 year old toddler boy could be up to. but tomorrow, i can take a hour long shower if i want to. (well, maybe not an hour)

~ errands. have you ever ran an errand with 2 baby car seats in tow, and a little boy who likes to pretend he is a pirate and slings an imaginary sword at everyone???

~ christmas shopping. maybe. this is not a priority. I have two friends who are trying to help me in this area, but really my mind just isn’t there yet. maybe after I eat my sides & sweets.

~ christmas decor. yes. this is a priority. i love it, but i hate the shopping part. (my mom has had plenty of practice by now holding a baby in one hand, and a hammer in another.)

~ laundry. who am i kidding. i am not going to touch that huge pile of clothes until she leaves.

~ rocking-a-babe. don’t get me wrong. i love doing this. i will never complain about it, but with two it is a difficult task at times. besides that, there is nothing like a “Tic-Toc” to rock you to sleep. (My mom fondly renamed Tic -Toc, by Graham.)

Yes, our house is packed when they come for a visit. But the sweetness that travels along with her is such a refreshing air. Along with all the other “side” perks of a Tic-Toc visit. We. just. can’t. wait.
