Tales from Hwy 127 Yard Sale

August 10, 2009 by Kellie

We did it! The three of us went on the big hunt for treasures. Shopped, ate, talked, snacked, slept (the twins) all while we found & missed some treasures. All in all we had a great time. I was glad just to be there, and surprisingly found some great pieces. Enough to keep me busy for a little bit with a minor repair, paint, or future props for a party or two. The twins did FAB-U-LOUS! Which as most would know, made our adventure perfect. Honorable mention to complete strangers who helped this momma out whether it was a little entertaining with a goofy face in passing, carrying something to the car, or giving the stroller a big push through gravel to race to a toilet! Seriously. I would do it again in a heart beat, but would request just a few. degrees. cooler. next year – pretty please!

1.) Hwy sign. (I just had to snap it) 2.) Ceramic booth. Full of plates, nick knacks, & color 3.) Bookshelf for $5.00 – needs small repair work on 1 leg, but will go in Graham’s room when fixed. 4.) Stamps. $2.00 I don’t collect them, but was drawn to them, so I got them. Thinking about framing the collection. 5.) Embroidered tea towels. 2 for a $1.00 – no kidding. I’m a sucker for them. 6.) Scalloped cupcake tins. Need I say more??? $1.00 for 6. 7.) Little girls slip. $1.00. 8.) A 1950’s wooden nursery lamp. $7.00. It reminded me of a few images around the web lately, so I got it. 8. See-saw $3.00 for 3 little kids. 9.) Tin/metal horsey for Graham’s room. $25.00. 10.) I bought this antiques sign. I am so excited about this! $15.00. 11.) Linen napkins with a pink detail. Of course! 4 for a $1.00 12.) Another view from a vendor’s tent. 13.) A old-fashioned school desk. My only regret not buying. I fell in love with the color it was painted. Darn it all! 14.) A hand full of vintage Christmas cards. .75 cents. 15.) What I had for lunch. Photo not great – in case you can’t make it out…Fried Green Tomatoes for $3.00. Slurp.

The traffic was a bear! Unbelievable. Honestly, I shopped only in a 5 mile radius. There is just so much. And to think it covers what, 4 states. Only in my dreams. But until next time…I am saving my pennies, taking a truck, maybe spending the night on the road, and some friends have already signed on for next year. Can we say, “Road Trip!” To be continued….2010!
