the loopy scoop on the mantel

December 4, 2010 by Kellie

Most of you have seen some sort of version of these loopy cone trees by now. I love all the different versions out there. Mine just happen to be made by scrap paper.

I used 3 different types of scrap paper & used my paper cutter to cut 1′ X 3′ strips.

I found out the “how-to” on making these trees from My Sweet Savannah’s blog.
They were so simple. The most expensive part of these trees was buying the straight pins. Because they really do take a lot of pins.
To mount the star, I broke off the spring & hot glued it to a piece of skewer stick & poked the entire topper through the styrofoam cone.

My tree holders came from the dollar store. Along with a little help of paint & super glue to hold them in place.

As for my antlers…aka as “BUCK”

Like I mentioned in my mantel post, I found the antlers at a salvage yard – broken for $5.00.
We used a wooden dowel, hot glue, screws & alot of hours trying to fix him.
(I bought the wooden display board @ Michael’s unfinished. I couldn’t believe how well the stain matched with the antlers.) That is the only thing that went right for us the *first* time regarding good ‘ole BUCK. I don’t think he liked the idea of being mounted. 😉

The frame came from Goodwill for $5.99. After some high gloss spray paint & the red & white houndtooth {LOVE} wrapping paper we had ourselves a good display frame.

Hands down, he’s my very favorite.
I love how he turned out.

I love the antlers! I have been getting quite into antlers myself….I made some of my very own deer antlers out of clay that I fired in the oven. And then….I sprayed them gold. I loved how they turned out. Here’s the link, if you are interested in checking them out!:

    Hi Kellie!
Okay…your tree IS adorable…but those antlers are TO.DIE.FOR!!!! I love what you did with them!
I’m sending my friend over…her husband is a hunter and she’s always trying to hide his antlers! Why not feature them!!!
    Great idea!
    Cheers!

Very fun. The trees are bright and very cheery. Love it when a project (antlers) comes together! Great job.
