a Botox treatment for our porch part 1 {porch makeover}

October 5, 2011 by Kellie

If you don’t want to read about my porch getting a makeover & major Botox treatment, I will understand.  Honestly.  You can move on to the next blog.

But this is monumental for us.  Really it is.  It’s been years over due.  My neighbors can testify to it.

All I know to say, is that my porch needs a major paint job.  It is chipped like crazy & we were still living in the year 1990 when hunter green & red were considered a great color combo.

I’ve been collecting all sorts of pics on pinterest for ideas on what to do with our front porch.

So low & behold when I walked into Sherwin Williams – this happened to be the very first paint sample I picked up.  It was my starting point.  Right then & there I could visualize it all.  (Don’t you love it when that happens?)
I knew this would be the perfect shade of yellow, and I knew the turquoise would be awesome as well.  I know what you’re thinking…no silly, not for the house color, but for accessories.  Kinda like what the Nester did to her urns…
1. Black shutters via Lowes.com 2. Vintage glider rocker 3.  Iron planters 4.  The Nester’s painted urns.

I did however, change the porch floor color….like 7 times.  My poor neighbors.  I about drove them crazy.  I finally realized I should take a pic of my brick & try to match it up that way with samples & then buy sample size paint & bring some home.  As you can see I have a lot of brown in my brick.  After doing this, it really helped me finalize on a decision.

I know some would say, well…it’s just paint.  You can change it.  Yes, they are right.  However, EXTERIOR paint choices can make you sick to your stomach.  It can keep you up at night.
It’s also the money your spending if you’re hiring painters.
It’s those 5 years that you’ve waited for this to happen.
It’s the monumental act of getting your husband to say “Okay.”
It’s the high hope in getting it just right so your husband wont roll his eyes at you when you ask if we can get it repainted.
Oh, the pressure of it all!

Well, I’m here to say that yellow is on the door & I am loving it.
And there’s plenty more to come.  😉

We’re on the waiting list for a new roof in 2 weeks.  I keep pinching myself.  The wait is over & it’s starting to finally happen.

Does anyone else find this rather humoring, to say the least?  I guess I’m just drawn to these colors.  Fingers crossed that it all comes together.

It IS monumental to do exterior painting and reno, I think. Much easier to do interior. Good luck! Can’t wait to see…..

Gorgeous colors! Can’t wait to see the finished product.

I find I’m a total sucker for certain color palettes too – this summer it was coral + bright poppy orange + light pink. Suddenly I realized everything I had accumulated for house accessories or clothing over the summer matched…
