Visiting my roots

July 17, 2012 by Kellie

Just to be clear, I’m not talking about these kind of roots.
Even though I have some major roots going on, that are in major need of a beauty shop visit.

I’m talking about the other kind of roots.
My family & where I’m from.
Where life began for me.  What made me who I am.  The house I grew up in.
The places we would go on our vacation growing up.
My cousins.  My Aunts & Uncle.
Those kind of roots.

I was born & raised a California girl.  I proudly claim that I’m a Tennessee girl now, but before that I was (and still am) a California girl.   I love Tennessee, I love living in the South.  There’s nothing like it.  But it’s not where I’m from.  I have no reference here as to where I went to school or that’s where I did (X) when I was growing up.  I don’t have those kind of places in Tennessee to show my kids.  Or share what made me who I am today.

It’s okay.  It’s a choice I made to move back here after college, and life now is wonderful, blessed, rich, full  & crazy.  But I miss & long to see the sunset dip into the Pacific ocean.  I miss my family.  I miss not seeing all those places from my childhood that are only memories now.  I long to show my 100% Tennessee farm boy husband my California roots.

Well, taking this story back about a month or so ago:
(because I know this post is getting long.  Especially if you’re A.D.D. when it comes to reading long winded posts, like me)

~ I entered a giveaway on 3 blogs, it was for a vacation package to visit Newport Beach, California, sponsored by Izea.com. (You better believe I jumped at entering all 3 of those giveaways!) Thousands entered, I’m sure most of you saw some sort of reference to it while it was going on.  The giveaway had 3 winners, the prize included air + hotel for a family of 4.

Guess who is leaving next week for Newport Beach & Laguna Beach California?
With her 3 kids….
And her 100% hunk of burning love, farm boy Tennessee husband.

Were headed to California.  Hopefully with a new hair do, I might add.  😉
They allowed us to add a 5th person to our trip, since we are a family of 5 AND they allowed us to extend our trip (at our expense) for 10 days!
I’m headed back to my roots, y’all!!!

Congratulations on your win!! What a blessing you have been given!

(Pardon me if I sniffle a bit. You see, my son and his family are moving back east…beginning their long trek across the country today. So I can relate to the longing for family and those love connections.)

    Have a memory-making vacation!!
