Why we love our Moroccan Shag Rug

September 15, 2015 by Kellie

Maybe I need to go ahead and accept that I might have a little bit of SHAGADELIC in me, baby.

Because this Moroccan Shag Rug has had me at the very first, hello.

I first saw these types of rugs long before we ever purchased our #newoldmtnhome and I was immediately and instantly in love with the shag part, and also the lines.  To me, this rug is a neutral, but also makes a strong statement.

Why we love our Moroccan Shag Rug. If you've thought about getting one of these rugs, read this honest review as a family of 5 + a dog.
I get asked the same 3 questions from people who visit our house in person and from people online.  And when I do, it solidifies what I had hoped for and tried to attain when we were planning and rebuilding this house.

So basically I give myself a high five on the decisions I have made.

Please know I am not bragging about those decisions.  Because if you only knew the loss of sleep I experienced, even trips to the bathroom over the stress of making the decisions.  And those sweet, dear friends of mine I have driven completely crazy with my indecisiveness!!!  Its almost like when we go to a restaurant, and there’s several pages on the menu.  I am in complete turmoil as to what to pick to eat.

For example the Cheesecake Factory.  They have like 12 pages on their menu.  It drives me nuts.

The same goes with decorating or interior design for me.

The questions I get asked most often???

*our floors
*and that rug is fabulous…where did you get it

So let me explain why we love our Moroccan Shag Rug.

My most favorite accessory of all.
First, you should know I have 3 elementary age kids, and a 54 pound dog.  I did question myself just once about the very light color of the rug, knowing our lifestyle as a young family.  However, that only lasted for a hot second.  We admittedly take our shoes off when we enter our house.  I realize that is not a lifestyle habit everyone wants to do, but in our house we do.  When you rebuild a home from the ground up, you appreciate the labor a whole lot more…and you want to make it last.  Same goes with our rug.  Luckily for us, our dog “Shady” loves his dog beds.  We’ve trained him to be this way, so I knew it would not be an issue when it came to our dog getting it dirty.

It is also one of the softest rugs you’ve ever stepped on.  So you do want to have your shoes off so you can feel it on your piggy toes.  😉  Yes, it does shed, but that has started to diminish with time and vacuuming. But that was never an issue for me, because again it was love at first sight.  I mentioned above that we take our shoes off when we enter our house, but that’s about the only precaution we do take as a family.

Because life does happen in here.

One of the kids favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is pile up the pillows and watch cartoons on this rug.  I always say, “hello, there is a couch.”  But they love the rug and the way it feels, and of course being close to our dog Shady.

One of the most versatile pattern rugs
This rug has already seen traffic by numerous neighborhood kids, guests, extended family and of course our normal traffic as a family of 5 + a dog.  It has yet to show any signs of wear.  I honestly thought it would start to show the traffic pattern of our steps with the shag, because we walk on it in the same direction 95% of the time, but it has yet to show anything.

Lastly, I love the pattern of this rug.  It is a bold rug but its also soft and neutral.  The design does stand out, but it goes with anything.  Its like the black cardigan sweater you can wear with anything.  Same goes with this rug.  I can see it paired with almost anything, other than a heavy patterned couch.

Rugs USA has many styles of Moroccan Shag Rugs, and to be honest you can’t go wrong with any of them.  You cannot beat their prices, especially when they have sales and their free shipping is such a life saver.  I mean can you imagine paying shipping on a large rug?  Ouch.

Every single rug in our home has come from RugUSA.  We have a round chevron rug in the boys’ room, a pink ikat for my daughter’s room and a jute rug in our bedroom (which is also a fabulous neutral rug!)  If you were to purchase a rug from RugsUSA a few years ago, you would have to wait until a major holiday in order to get a great sale.  But now, they have sales all the time online, which is so awesome!  Plus they’re free shipping can’t be beat!
