Personalized Wooden Silhouettes

First, let me say I am over the moon excited about my Personalized Wooden Silhouettes.  From the very beginning stages of partnering with Slinkslinks I knew I was going to love them.  But truth be told I had no idea I would love them as much as I do.  They are exactly what this room needed to anchor it and of course make this room feel more sentimental.

It truly was the easiest process to take quick photos of my kids standing in basically the same spot (you can do this with your phone or a regular camera) and snap a picture of their silhouette and send the files to Slinkslinks.  One of the hardest was trying to get a profile shot of our dog, Shady.  That stinker would not be still to save my life.  My husband had to bribe him with a treat while I snapped a few pics of his side profile.  But in the end it all worked out beautifully.  Slinkslinks gives you many options when you place an order for these personalized wooden silhouettes.  She’ll paint, stain or send them natural – whichever you prefer.

I choose to have them natural so I could stain them myself, so they would match our floors and my DIY Farmhouse Shelves I did a few months back.  I used basically the same stain that we have on our floors and I think it gives our living room a cohesive feel.

I applied 2 coats of stain to each silhouette.  Now before I go any further if you decide to do the same as I did, *always remember to start with a very light coat of stain.*  You can always add more but if you go too heavy it will be hard to fix.   I used an old t-shirt to apply the stain & was very careful to apply in the direction of the wood grain.  I dipped Q tips in my stain and used the Q tips around the corners and they worked like a charm.

They turned out so beautiful in my {humble} opinion.  She did an amazing job, which made the stain look even better.  I made the big mistake of trying to hang them myself!!!  When you are hanging more than 1 and a mirror is in between – WAIT!!! until you have someone around who can help you eye it and move the level for you.  Ask me how I know.

I think the grain of the wood is one of my favorite details about these Personalized Wooden Silhouettes.
