Relaxed Summer Master Bedroom

April 25, 2019 by Kellie

I’m so excited to give you all a tour of our Relaxed Summer Master Bedroom.

Relaxed Summer Master Bedroom
In the past few years, I’ve noticed something about myself.  I realize that I have truly fallen in love with Summer.  It’s never been my favorite season, because…of my CRAZY hair, just to be honest.  Heat & humidity aren’t a natural curly haired person’s favorite season, ya know.  But I love the relaxed & casual vibe Summer always brings.  I realize I’m even more relaxed with my kids, my attitude towards things changes for the good!  I become more of a “yes” mom than a “no” mom.   It’s also my favorite thing to switch up in our home to give off the same sort of casual & relaxed vibe.  So this year I really wanted to create a relaxed Summer master bedroom for my husband & I to enjoy.

I’m a big fan of Matelesse bedding.  There’s something about a thick cotton quilt at the end of the bed that gives me all the heart eyes.  I even have one I use for our Christmas bedroom that I look forward to pulling out of storage every year as well.

This year, I knew I wanted to find a blue matelesse quilt & shams to create my relaxed summer master bedroom vibe.  Last year, I couldn’t find one that was reasonably priced, so I gave up.  But this year, I  started looking early and I feel in love with this quilt and shams for our bedroom. It was love at first sight right when I put it on our bed.  I didn’t have to change out our bed skirt or our main white duvet.  It all flows together really well, I think.

Sometimes, I struggle identifying or saying what my “style” is for our home.  Everything seems so “classified” into one category lately when it comes to interior design.  I’m not a farmhouse type of person, I’m not traditional, I’m not boho, nor am I modern. But there are a few things I  do know I love & want in our home:

white mixed with pops of color
plants…gimme all the plants
classic statement pieces
trendy accessories
and above all it must be relaxed & cozy feeling

So knowing all of that, how would you classify my style?  – LOL – confusing, right???

Oh!  I almost forgot to mention, our master bedroom used to be a garage.  Isn’t that crazy?  It’s a huge room!  Enough for a king size bed, a sofa, two large dressers + an armoire!  I love all the room we have.  Here’s a before picture of how it looked when we bought our foreclosure.

It’s amazing what a little elbow grease, paint & layers of texture and fabric can do for a room, isn’t it?  Obviously, the bigger window behind the bed, was where the garage door once was.  This room gets a lot of gorgeous natural light.  However, my husband is on-call 24/7 most of the weeks.  So the only thing he asked for is to have black-out blinds for our bedroom, and a darker paint.  Well…our blinds are black-out blinds for sure & we love them.  But we had to compromise on the darker paint.  He got 1 darker focal wall, and I got all the other walls in white.  LOL  Compromise ~ it’s what makes a marriage work.

Of course, I couldn’t forget sharing our most favorite accessory in this room.
