a whimsy wonderland mantel

November 29, 2010 by Kellie

Just like that. We go from pumpkins & spices to peppermint & pine.
Soon the count down will start by advent calendars adorning the walls of many homes. The lights become brighter & the reds a little crisper. Traditions that we haven’t done in a year are such a welcomed & cherished activity to finally do again. Then there’s the music, that wonderful Christmas music that can take you on a trip back to your childhood in an instant.
It is such a wonderful time of year.

As I was planning on decking my halls & mantel this weekend, as I do with everything, I was designing my vision with my kids in mind. I love a child friendly home with touches of whimsy here & there. A few surprises with a twist of tradition. It really is my personal favorite way to decorate.

So from that our whimsy wonderland mantel was inspired~

My most expensive splurge for this mantel was my $9.99 fresh garland. The smell of pine, rosemary & cypress makes it worth every penny. Everything else was either thrifted, from the dollar store, or was made by me. You can’t beat that combination, a fun design on a “thrifted” budget. 😉

p.s. In case you’re wondering the antlers are made out of teak wood. I found them at our local salvage yard unmounted & 1 point broken off for $5.00. Luckily the broken point was sitting right next to the antlers. Unfortunately for my husband they were an almost all day project to fix & mount. Needless to say, I’m doing a happy dance over the finshed result.

I love them.

I so wish I could do fresh greenery. The smell is perfection, except for the fact that it makes my eyes swell and my airways close up. Drats! Lisa~

This is the cutest mantel! First I feel sorry for the reindeer that lost his antlers. Really, I was relieved to read they were fake. Those ribbon trees are delightful. This is my first time to your blog…I think…I’m going to have to look around while I am here…

    love your style.
