So My Walls Can Talk Part 2 ~ Gallery Wall

July 31, 2010 by Kellie

Do you all remember my hallway/chalkboard wall post from what seems like forever ago?
Here’s our project for the other side of the hallway, a gallery wall.
Well, here we are again – visiting my hallway & my very used chalkboard wall.  Oh, & in case you failed to notice the playpen barricade.  This is real life, my friends.  I use this quite often to block little fingers from interrupting a project.
Here’s the low down of what we did.
1. Measure your wall (twice)
2. Cut craft paper to the size of your wall/measurement.
3.  Mark with tape the center of your wall.
&
Fold your craft paper (template) in the exact center of your measurement
I highly recommend playing around with your layout.  I kind of knew the look that I wanted, but you never know what will fit/what wont until you use your template as a guide.
Start with your center frame & work your way out.
BUT…..
after that, is where we ran into horrible trouble especially in my almost 100 year old house & plaster walls.
 Every frame is different.
So here’s what we did in this video:
*hint* we did it the old fashion way!
(don’t laugh it’s my first video – )
how to hang a gallery wall from this blessed nest on Vimeo.
(yucky stuff on the glass of a yard sale find, but great frame with a new glass)
I added this picture above of Chief (aka my husband) measuring & drawing lines, just in case I wasn’t clear in the video.  To make it easy on yourself especially if you have a lot of frames – just use the width of a regular old fashion ruler.
Here’s the finished look with new glass & mats (in some) and all the photos.~

I am thrilled with the look! (And I thought it looked fabulous with just the chalkboard wall.)  But now, I love it even more.  I also love the that each side of the hallway can tell a story, past & present.

So My Walls Can Talk Part 3 – *hopefully* coming next week.
Part 4 – soon thereafter.
I’m not done…yet.

If you are looking for more inspiration for selecting a style for a gallery wall, my friend Elizabeth – aka Kentucky Mama did a great post here.
