Capturing Memorable Holiday Photos with Kids at Night

November 25, 2012 by Kellie

Sure, anyone can take a photo of a still subject & make it look pretty good.  But add in wiggle worm kids + late evening hours + inside & I become photo challenged!  Almost everything will come out blurry if you don’t have the right settings on your camera.
With the holidays & almost everything happening in the evening hours or indoors, I’m bound & determined to capture good photos of these 3.  Because there really should be no excuses when capturing memorable moments.  Time moves too fast for excuses!

I played around this weekend with my settings on my camera in manual mode!  Usually I resort to auto mode in the evening, but here’s what I was able to capture & trust me, they weren’t still for these photos at.all.  I let them do whatever they wanted while I was playing around with the settings.  Because we were here for awhile, mind you.
Nothing came out blurry with all their moving around.  All candid, which I love & no stress in trying to get the perfect “posed” picture so that it wouldn’t look blurry.  SCORE!
I used my 50 mm lens, ISO set @: 1600, f/1.8
I have a running list of photo ideas to do this month that I can’t wait to try out!
What’s your favorite holiday pictures to take?  Do you take the same ones year after year as the kids grow?
