making a holiday photo wreath

December 17, 2009 by Kellie

So many have asked about the photo wreath, that I thought I would just show you really how simple it is to make one. I’m sure most of you can visualize this in your head. But I will say, after trial & error, to make sure you get black & white prints with BORDERS. I personally think the borders help frame each picture and make the wreath look a little more unique.

SUPPLIES
*20-30 b&w GLOSSY prints. 4 of them I got in a 5X7 size, the rest were all normal size. Making sure you have selected both vertical & horizontal prints. (Walgreens.com has daily specials for prints, fyi)
*a wire hanger
*strong tape
*hot glue gun & glue sticks
*simple ribbon

Start selecting prints to work in a circular form. I used the four 5×7 prints on the top, bottom, & two sides. (think of a clock, 12, 3,6,&9). I also think trying to match up borders to borders also adds to the overall appearance of this wreath, whenever possible. Basically allowing the borders to become frames in the collage wreath. See 2 photos below.

Almost forgot!!! The mirror! This will set the wreath apart & frame it nicely!

A word of caution!!! The hot glue will be felt through literally your paper thin photos. So becareful. Said a hot glue gun burn victim from this project.

And there you have it. Many of you have already seen these last 2 photos. But this is the overall effect of our photo wreath. I plan to keep it up through Valentine’s Day, since the ribbon I choose does not scream “Christmas”.

I have received so many compliments on this wreath via comment section on the open house tour or separate emails. I appreciate them all so much, thank you. For the record, however, my biggest compliment came this morning when Chief (aka, my husband) took several pictures of the displayed wreath with his phone, & sent them to various people. If you know my husband, then you know that usually he is a walking zombie from lack of sleep, that hardly notices any change, new outfit, or new hair style. So this made me feel really good about our family wreath. 🙂

Total time on the project, once I got the prints in hand was about 20 minutes. Thanks again for all your kind words & emails. You really know how to make this girl feel special!
