I love “real” flowers & foliage. I prefer to have real garland. (Although, I do have some artificial garland.) But my mind automatically goes to the real stuff when thinking about using flowers or foliage for decor. I knew I wanted a “real” wreath for Fall & Winter, and I already had a few ideas in my mind. After seeing this book, and looking at her beautiful examples & pictures, I knew I could make one myself & use recycled material where needed. So here goes:
Using whatever you have in your yard, street, or neighborhood gather a collection of each thing you choose. Whether it be:
Nuts
dried flowers
pine cones
grapevine
mossed bark
twigs
rocks
bittersweet
grab a hot glue gun, lots of glue sticks, and a form for your wreath. And start gluing away in groupings. Usually wreaths are decorated with everything being spread apart for decoration. This wreath has more of an impact because of the groupings of all the same decor glued & positioned together.

The berries are artificial. But are recycled from another project/decor item. The 2 velvet leaves are from a garland I have had for years.
Here is our recycled wreath, in our breakfast room. I love it. Underneath the wreath is our “thankful chain”. Everyday we are writing one thing we are thankful for on each chain until Thanksgiving. Whether it be pancakes, new shoes, or our military men & women. Just a simple way of teaching Graham & reminding me to be more thankful.
Of course, I had to do a “Give Thanks” banner to go along with our thankful chain & wreath. You know I am a sucker for these things! 🙂
