Preparing your home for the colder months

September 10, 2013 by Kellie

Preparing your Home for Fall & tips on becoming more energy efficient to help beat the a cold home.

I’ve got some good news & some bad news.  LEAVES are going to happen.  I absolutely love driving through leaves on a street & seeing them blow up in the air in my rear view mirror.  I also love seeing a yard full of them.  It’s a comforting & beautiful sight.   The bad news, is that someone is going to have to clean up all those leaves.  The tend to multiply by thousands in the yard, and then they crumble and get everywhere on the driveway, the gutters & all over your car.

You can always bank on leaves falling & perhaps even a back ache or two trying to rake them all up.   Fall is a season for a little bit of extra work & preparedness for your home.  (Although, the Summer weeds might be a close runner up!  😉   This post is the second chapter of “loving & caring for your home in the Fall” brought to you by HomeAdvisor.

Home Advisor

In my first post, I shared my results from taking their Home Report Card Quiz & some of the steps you should take to get your home ready for Fall & Winter.  Doing the (free) quiz is an education in itself.  Helping you realize steps you can take to aid your home in becoming more energy efficient in the colder months ahead.

Our home is in desperate need of a gutter cleanout & guards.  So thankfully,  HomeAdvisor has such a page where we can find a trusted professional in our area to help us take care of our gutters before all the leaves fall.

Questionnaire for cleaning out your gutters from HomeAdvisor

They also have a “how – to” video on cleaning out your gutters & installing gutter guards, if we opted for that route.   So if you were on the fence about tackling a DIY project such as this, you could watch their videos to see if you could actually do it yourself before committing to a professional.  That’s the beauty of the HomeAdvisor site, they really do want to be able to advise you on either side of DIY or hiring someone to do it for you.  Whether you need to just start with a Home Audit, upgrade your thermostat, or doing a Fall yard clean up HomeAdvisor can help you tackle the jobs that need to get done.

This is a sponsored post brought to you by HomeAdvisor, all opinions shared in this post are 100% my own.
