Decorating Christmas Cookies with Kids

December 13, 2013 by Kellie

This post and the kids’ clothes are sponsored by Carter’s.

I had a little surprise for the kids when they came home from school.  I had made Christmas cut out cookies & chocolate peppermint cookies for them to decorate.   I realize part of the fun is cutting out the dough, but ever since the time has changed I feel like it’s a race to get everything done that we need to, let alone have time to play or read together.  So I thought I would get a jump start on the baking so they could take their time decorating to their hearts’ content.

We don’t focus on perfection…we focus on the fun in our home.   Of course there’s a big mess to clean up, but I finally have become smarter through the years and given each kid their own large baking sheet to decorate, spill, sprinkle, drizzle ~ whatever they want on it.  It really does help with the clean up.

I think it’s pretty obvious they like the icing, wouldn’t you say???

When it’s all said & done, and their masterpieces are finished…they are so proud!

With school being out soon for Christmas break, we even made extra cookies to freeze for next week.  Our favorite routine is to have cookies (any kind will do!!!) drink hot cocoa, the kids will get their Christmas pajamas on & we’ll read a few Christmas books or watch a Christmas movie.  It is by far their favorite thing, and of course all centered around the glow from the Christmas tree.
And, I must say ~ it is my favorite too!
