Fall Container Garden Ideas

August 20, 2014 by Kellie

If you’ve been a reader of this blog for a while – you KNOW  that I have a hot & heavy love affair with Fall.

I mean.

I get giddy over it’s pending arrival.  I plan outfits, fingernail polish, and yes even my hair color around Fall.

If there ever was a season that was made specifically for me ~ it’s Fall, y’all.

Every thing that is Fall related – count me in X 2!  If it has the word “pumpkin” ~ yes, put 2 in my cart, please!

I’ve been dreaming up ideas for our Fall containers at our new house. At the time of writing this post we still aren’t living up there, because there’s still a lot of work to be done.   Sure, my husband will probably D.I.E. if I were to start planting & arranging flower pots right about now with every demo & DIY project we have going on up there.  But you better believe I will sneak at least 2 Fall containers full of mums, pumpkins, twigs and kale to the new house, even if it’s in the middle of the night!  😉

Speaking of the middle of the night ~ that’s when I’ve been collecting ideas for our new house, and I thought I would share some of my favorite Fall Container Ideas with you all in this roundup.

Fall Container Garden Ideas. How to create the perfect thriller, filler and spiller effect in your planters
If you have a flower garden or use containers, I’m sure you’ve heard of the thriller, filler and spiller effect?  The combination of the 3 works wonders in any container, planter or urn.  You want to have a tall “thriller”  usually something either colorful or that may have gorgeous leaves or detail.  “Filler” is something that usually spreads and grows obviously to fill the pot.  That too could either be colorful or leafy.  “Spiller” well that’s kinda easy.  Ivy, Potato vine etc.  anything that grows and “spills” out of your pot that truly is the icing on the cake when it comes to creating a container garden that you want to have a WOW impact for either your curb appeal, entry or your porch.

Below is a pretty good example of a thriller, filler and spiller.  Although, the spiller isn’t quite there, I’m sure you get the idea.

Layer Pots to get height

Although, the above isn’t really a example of a Fall display, I thought this was a great diagram of how you can layer pots to give you height for a fun display.  Unfortunately, this doesn’t have an original source.  It’s just floating out there on the web.

Wish me luck as I’ll soon be sneaking in the middle of the night to plant my Fall plants for display in my containers!  😉

Let’s pin together!  Do you like to pin home decor, recipes, Fall stuff, kids stuff & crafts?  Me too!
