DIY Evergreen Frame Christmas Mantel

November 27, 2018 by Kellie

I’m so excited to share my DIY Evergreen Frame Christmas Mantel with you all.  I haven’t done a DIY tutorial in quite a while, and I absolutely love the end result of this simple project.  I’ve had this idea swirling in my head for a few months.  I wanted to create something different, but still use the beautiful evergreen clippings that I love so much this time of year.

First, I should probably start off by saying, that I love the color green.  Some people consider it a color and some a neutral.  Either way, it doesn’t matter to me, I love green.  I also realize that some people may like more color in their decor.  Which I totally get.  But for me this year, I wanted neutral for this mantel, and I wanted to showcase natural evergreen Fraiser fur, pinecones, cedar, wood tones and of course white.

After clearing off of my mantel, I started with my blank thrift store frame, that I have had for years!  I believe I paid $3 for this tried & true little nugget of a frame.  It was the perfect foundation piece to create my DIY evergreen frame Christmas mantel.

I added garland, picks, pinecones, a wood bead garland and feathers to my frame.  Most of the items for my DIY evergreen frame Christmas mantel came from Michaels, Target (white bead garland) and of course thrifting.

Obviously, you can use whatever object you’d like for your main focal point for your mantel.  I even thought about using a large tobacco basket, but I decided to use what I had on hand.  I simply love the end result and how it looks and feels in our living room.

With the help of my 10 year old, we made this video together.  He was home sick from school, and so he was happy to hold the phone while I tried to detail the steps.

As I mentioned above, I love all the greenery that Pine, Fir & Cedar trees offer this time of year.  I wanted something different for my mantel.  Something that I created, that incorporated all the things I love.  Typically one would think to add a mirror and hang a garland or spray around the mirror, but I have a large mirror on the opposite wall of my mantel.  So I thought using a blank empty frame would be a fun & different (and hopefully a new) idea to decorate our Christmas mantel.

I added pinecones, the white bead garland and feathers to finish up the look.  All are either attached with floral wire or tucked behind the frame.  Nothing is permanent on this frame.  So after Christmas, I can remove everything and use it for something else.

It’s a show stopper for sure, and beautiful at night when it’s all aglow.

I’ve always been a big fan of doing something different for our Christmas mantel every year.  I try not to go out and buy many things, unless I know I’ll use them again.  All the faux greenery was on sale, and the white houses came from Target’s dollar spot.

Thanks for stopping by & I hope you enjoyed my DIY Evergreen Frame Christmas Mantel.  If you feel so inspired, please feel free to share or pin.
